Schools and childcare centers in all seven northeastern counties that make up the Albemarle Pediatric Asthma Coalition - Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans.
Description:
The Albemarle Pediatric Asthma Coalition has created an Asthma Action Plan specifically for the child age (birth-4), which will be distributed to private providers, health department physicians, childcare centers and operators, school nurses, and administrators during the month of May.
Pinwheels will be displayed in front of childcare centers and schools to represent the number of children living with asthma at each childcare center and school.
World Asthma Day banners will be displayed in the seven northeastern North Carolina counties that make up the Albemarle Pediatric Asthma Coalition.

Chowan Middle School - 2845 Virginia Road, Tyner, NC 27980
Description:
For World Asthma Day, the Asthma Warriors Club at Chowan Middle School developed a video on asthma facts and how to have good control over asthma. This video will be played in each classroom on Channel 1 (channel on news and topics for students). During lunch, club members will also sponsor an asthma table with information on asthma, especially focusing on asthma during the teen years.

Asthma Awareness Activity for Levine Children’s Hospital

Description:
Students from the Butler High School Dream Team have written and will present a play on asthma to the children who are admitted to Levine Children’s Hospital. The event will be filmed and will be sent via live camera to the rooms of children who are too sick to come to the performance center. After the play, the Dream Team is planning to participate in an asthma awareness activity in the play room.
The Wilmington Sharks and the Asthma Coalition of the Cape Fear Region are proudly working together to raise asthma awareness. On Friday, June 13th at Legion Stadium kids are encouraged to wear their favorite costume and come out to the game. Prior to the games start there will be games and booths set up to engage the children while learning about asthma, effects of tobacco use, and safety. Announcements pertaining to facts about asthma and smoking will occur after every inning and the Air Quality Flag will be flown at the stadium.
The Spring Retreat is a medical camping program that serves children five years and older with asthma and their families. The retreat is designed to help parents and children improve their understanding of asthma and to enhance the lives of children who are coping with the disease. Families will enjoy a variety of recreational activities like canoeing, arts & crafts, hayrides, sailing and swimming as well as educational sessions.

In celebration of World Asthma Day and *Asthma Awareness Month, the Wake County Asthma Coalition is hosting a Family Picnic at Pullen Park, Raleigh, NC. Families with asthmatic children and/or adults are invited to attend. Families should plan to bring a picnic lunch. Beverages and cookies will be provided. There is also an opportunity to make a donation and be entered into a drawing for a full week at Camp Challenge (a camp for asthmatic and diabetic kids ages 7 - 17) and other prizes. Description:
World Asthma Day in Western North Carolina will include an educational program designed for 3rd and 4th graders at the elementary schools listed above. The program will include asthma education, along with an overview of asthma's relationship to environmental tobacco smoke and a discussion of the importance of exercise.
